You know what I think
is under appreciated? Automatic windows. Manual windows are such a pain! Here
is why I think manual windows are a pain: if you are alone in the car, but you
want to role the passenger window up or down, you either have to lean all the
way over and crank it yourself, or you have to not do it at all and just suffer
through whatever made you want to change the position of the window. Also, it
takes forever to manually role down a window,
The
convenience of automatic window is just so fabulous if you think about it. From
the driver’s seat you can roll down the window simply by moving your hand to the
switch. This also prevents accidents in more way then one. Let’s say you are
driving down the road on a hot summer day, and your air conditioner isn’t working.
With a manual window it would be extremely difficult to role the window down
while strapped in your seatbelt, and it’s also dangerous to be leaning all the
way over in a car while you’re driving, not only because you can't see the road if you are. And if you are paying attention to the windows you're no longer paying attention to the road, pluse you could accidently turn your stearing wheel the wrong way and hit something.
The
other great thing about automatic windows is the locks that are on them. Let’s
say you have to drive some kids around. Kids love pressing buttons and seeing
things being controlled by the buttons that they are pressing. If the kids you
are driving around are messing with be windows, all you have to do is press
that wonderful lock button right next to your left hand, and BOOM! Problem
solved.
Tasha: What a clever, playful little response! You're absolutely right: the car power window is one of those unheralded inventions that we all take for granted. Trust me, as someone who is old enough to remember the crank windows, I can relate to a lot of the annoyances/ safety hazards you described in the post!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your blogs thus far-- you have an energetic, personality-laced writing style. Keep it up (but just proof for minor errors).
Even if I don't drive yet, I can definitely see how you feel there. One of my neighbors had the manual windows and it really was pretty tough to roll up and down, I didn't bother to touch so. Btw,I used to hate it when my dad locks the windows while I'm playing with it.

DeleteMy dad has an old Chevy pickup and every time I drive it I have the same problem. I normally get so frustrated with it that I just give up and don't even use it. You make some very good points about safety and the whole thing is just plain fun to read!
ReplyDeleteI can completely relate to this because my dads old jeep had crank windows and it was such a pain! However the crank windows bring a feel of a classic car, it kinda feels like that. All in all this was a good blog and i enjoyed reading this.
ReplyDeleteI agree manual windows are a pain. I have always hated having to use them whenever I do have to.
ReplyDeleteI agree with every word in this blog. I am so thankful for automatic windows. The tedious requirement of having to manually role down the window is just annoying. Although, if one is stuck on the unfortunate situation of being in a car with manual windows and you desperately need cool air, or you just want to yell at someone, you could just bash straight through the window, and BOOM! Problem solved.
